Rachel and Jamie’s Italian countryside wedding was an unforgettable experience. Not only were we excited about shooting in dreamy Italy, we couldn’t believe our eyes when Rachel and Jamie emailed to say they were getting married in the beautiful castle of Bardi, (being a Destination Wedding Photographer has its perks!). Italian countryside wedding.
Nestled firmly on a rock outcrop, facing a swath of rolling hills, mountains and valleys, you can hardly tell where the 8th Century castle begins and ends, as it blends in so harmoniously with the landscape. We had to stop the car at least ten times on our approach as it came looming into view. A castle wedding has to be one of our favourites, they’re so moody and wrapped up in history, with a guaranteed killer view to make use of. It was an unusually hot June day and guests came from all over Europe to join Rachel & Jamie at their celebration. They had a beautiful civil ceremony in the internal courtyard of the castle, followed by an extended aperitivo – Italian style, where old friends and family re-united to laugh and drink together before settling down for an awesome evening meal. We snuck Rachel & Jamie off in-between courses, (have to catch that perfect light!) for their portraits. You could tell how in love these two were and that they had a genuine connection, we felt so honoured to be there to capture them in that moment. We had also photographed their engagement shoot, so it was extra humbling to see them get married and be a part of that journey.
