An Elopement on Dartmoor, Devon
We are so excited to finally share this beautiful elopement story we shot back in June on Dartmoor, in Devon. Any Wuthering Heights fan will appreciate the kind of romantic setting the open moors possess, and although this isn’t Emily Bronte’s Yorkshire, it certainly evokes the same feeling! Ancient woodland, rivers, rugged tors and roaming ponies characterise the landscape on Dartmoor, making it the perfect setting for a wild elopement! We also love the chance to visit Devon, as its where Dan grew up, so he gets to catch up with family and go on a trip down memory lane.
Lilly & James
Lilly and James are two artistic souls from Devon, and decided on an elopement just after their engagement last year. They always knew it was the right choice for them to elope, and Dartmoor was a place they had spent lots of time together over the years. We started the day off at a cute country house hotel in the middle of the moors, where Lilly and James got ready together. We then headed out to Bellever Woods, a stunning woodland with giant trees and mossy floors, it honestly looked like a fairytale. They exchanged personal vows and it all got a bit emotional when James recited a poem he had written for Lilly.
Dartmoor is known for its tors, so the day wouldn’t have been complete without scaling one of these huge rocky outcrops. It was incredibly windy on the climb up, but totally worth it! The view was incredible and it was an amazing adventure to document such a special connection between two people in this mythical place, we can’t wait to go back and do it all over again! So enjoy this gorgeous story and let us know what you think!
