Hey everyone, we are mega excited to share this gorgeous London elopement story with you today!
A London Elopement at The Asylum Chapel
It was wonderful to finally get back into the swing of things with Tilde & Mitchell’s special London elopement! You might remember we photographed Tilde & Mitchell’s engagement story last year, so we were thrilled when they asked us to be their London Elopement photographers. Tilde & Mitchell chose Asylum chapel for their ceremony, which is a deconsecrated ruined chapel in Peckham, London. It was bombed in WWII, and restored as a space for unique ceremonies and weddings. The faded paint and plaster interior, alongside the crumbling walls and stained glass windows make this such a unique venue for a London elopement. They wanted the historical vibe of the space to shine through, so kept the decor minimal, opting only for pillar candles to light the space.
A Unique Elopement Ceremony
Tilde and Mitchell decided to get ready separately at the chapel, and have a first look. Their bespoke elopement ceremony was conducted by the lovely Rosalie Kuyvenhoven. Tilde read Mitchell a love poem in her mother tongue (Swedish) which got super emotional! They then performed a beautiful red rose exchange – their first gift to one another as a married couple, as well as a symbol of their love.
Portraits at The Pergola and Hill Garden, Hampstead Heath
After the ceremony, we headed to the stunning Hill Garden and Pergola in Hampstead Heath for couple portraits, one of our favourite locations! We love the air of faded grandeur it has, with its overgrown vines, creepers and mossy columns. It has a peacefulness not matched anywhere else in this restless city, and as a result, is such a romantic place for a London Elopement. At the end of the afternoon the sun broke through the clouds and brought the autumnal colours of the garden to life, we could hardly believe our eyes at how beautiful and ethereal it all looked.
It was a total honour to witness and capture such a magical London elopement. We honestly find it so humbling that couples invite us into their lives, trusting our vision to capture their story. It’s been very hard this year not to have had that!
So kick back, and enjoy this London elopement – don’t be shy to leave any comments, or questions! We’d love to hear from you.
